Join us at the Millenium Country Park, Marston Vale, for a 3 hour guided walk led by our team of expert volunteers. This is a chance to say a last farewell to our summer migrant species as they make their way back to their winter destinations. We hope to see swallows, martins and warbler species, as well as our resident birds such as the song thrush, blackbird and red kite. What you need to know: Bring binoculars if you have them - but don't worry if not - we have spares available! Please dress for the weather and wear sturdy footwear. No dogs allowed as we will be exploring the Wetlands Nature Reserve. One of the most popular walks carried out by Friends of Bedford Cemetery. It includes some of Bedford 'names' such as Wells and Higgins, a murderer, a Polish freedom fighter, the Panacea Society graves and some of the fascinating background of gravestone symbolism. You'll want to learn more..... No booking needed. Car parking nearby Foster Hill Road. Some parking available outside chapel. Enter through Gatehouse building, then towards chapel which is clearly visible up a slight slope to the left. A walk by Friends of Bedford Cemetery.

Introduction To Map Reading – Training Course

The aim of this course is to introduce you to the basics of reading an OS Map. Including the identification of grid references and map symbols, plus how to navigate your way round the countryside

The course is divided into 2 parts

1.      Morning –  What is an OS map and how to read it.

2.      Afternoon – outdoor practical session (putting the morning’s theory into practice during a short  4 mile walk).

Please bring the following

·         Packed lunch

·         Walking Gear (for the afternoon session) – the walk will still take place even it’s raining

·         A compass (if you have one)

40 mile Greensand Walk Challenge

The walk is a 40-mile (64km) long route that starts near the Bedfordshire boundary with Buckinghamshire at Leighton Buzzard, passes through Woburn, Ampthill and Sandy, before finishing at Gamlingay on the Cambridgeshire border.


The Challenge is to complete the 40-mile walk over two days.
